So it should be the most fun to race around. Las Vegas is fun at the best of times and when it comes to city landscapes it’s one of the weirdest. Viva Flight Vegas Air Race/ Las Vegas Waterway Jetsprint It’s nice to be behind the nice wooden steering wheel of the Silver Arrows. It’s one of the rare times in the game that racing and controlling the car and winning a race actually feels like an achievement and not a completionist task to grind levels. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe (W196) from 1955 makes for an interesting diversion from the usual touring car fare and if you’re in the AMG C63 that you get as bonus from the special editions of the game, you’ll probably be happy for some actual difficulty.Īll of this is set against the rising sun, which in true GT racing style will utterly blind you through the tricky S bend section of the Miami course. It makes everywhere look like those annoying painted run off areas in F1.īut you will find a decent race down at the Miami racing track featuring a classic car.

The AI is sloppy and will suddenly get a boost of speed and grip through corners to try and keep you honest, and the tracks are largely uninspiring, with all of them using the Blue Pro Racing colour scheme. The track racing in The Crew 2 isn’t great. This one is best experienced racing in the cockpit view. That’d be a wonderful addition to the game. I can only imagine how much fun some of these runs would be on some classic Harley’s or even a Honda Goldwing, cruising with your crew and oversized mirrors.

One thing I would love or at least hope is that some of these races can be created or customised and that the vehicle list grows. Some of the more windy parts of the mountain trail are tricky, especially as you are effectively in a street race but it’s worth it for the weather changes and the view.

Plus you’re doing this on a motorcycle, which is forced and fun. It’s only 10 minutes long but it’s one that really does show of the game’s varied landscapes. The Red Rock Run will see you start in Las Vegas, hitting a small part of Bonneville salt flats before weaving your way up and back down the Rocky Mountains into Yosemite. Harley-Davidson Red Rock Run (Street Race)Īnother showcase race but on a much smaller scale. Give me a Route 66 Gumball or a Seattle to Miami any day over the drawn out street races. I’d be honest, I’d take a game that has many of this cross-country races. Some vintage cars would have been brilliant aside from the one McLaren F1 from 1993, but you can go with a Pagani, a newer McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini or a Ford, to name but a few manufacturers. The choice of Hypercars is pretty nice, if not all that gripping. This particular race will see you leave the Manhattan Island and buzz past St Louis and skim the south of Chicago before driving through the North, dropping down to say hello to the Bonneville Salt Flats and a bit of Vegas before going around the Rockies and ending up taking in San Francisco from the north via a bit of Yosemite National Park.

LA to Seattle especially is fun as you get to go through some West coast forests full of huge redwood trees and it feels like it's straight out of Outrun (if you're driving a Ferrari anyway). There are four Hypercar races and they are probably the most enjoyable races in the game. The premise is simple, race your Hypercar from coast to coast. At around 40 minutes long it is the showcase race for the game, regardless of the games’ own narrative. Just be careful as you tackle the ramp as the angle change will make your already twitchy Rally Cross car a bit more twitchy and you can easily just plant it into a wall, scrubbing all of your speed. Two laps of driving up dirt tracks to the top of the ski jump before you pelt it down it to get some big speed and big air. Now there are two races here, one called Ski Jump (which is a track race that doesn’t actually use the ski jump at all - why?) and one called the American Petrol Race. Just to the north east of Salt Lake City you’ll find the Ski Jump event, a rally cross race at what I believe is supposed to be the Utah Olympic Park that was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. But there are some fun things you can do when you move out of the standard dirt and tarmac combos. The courses are all made up, the cars are various different takes on off-road customised vehicles, like a Focus and a few Lancia’s, and the joker lap isn’t a thing (although the joker is on every course and for some reason is a shortcut for most of the tracks). So this isn’t pure rallycross as you know it.
